Every year 1.5 million deer crashes leave 13,713 people injured and result in $1.1 billion worth of vehicular damage. But numbers can’t tell the whole story. What happens when man-made barriers artificially divide a natural ecosystem? At Milepost 314, off of I-90 in Montana, April Craighead is pioneering efforts to minimize the costs to both humans and the larger ecoysystem. In doing so, she sparks our imagination to consider the creation of a system of wildlife corridors which would allow numerous species to migrate freely across unnatural boundaries.
