In 2002, under pressure from a serious drought, upstream farmers were authorized by the President of the United States to divert water away from the Klamath River. As a result, river temperatures abruptly warmed and an estimated 34,000 adult salmon were killed before getting a chance to spawn. What does the future hold for this keystone species?
